Movie soundtracks became very significant connecting music and film. Back in 1970s to 1990s, soundtrack albums are very popular, and it's quite rare now. Going back to 1998, it is not just the year of "Titanic" and Celine Dion, rather also a year of movie soundtracks.
That year, aside from "Titanic", movies such as "City of Angels" and "Armageddon" had an incredible soundtrack, and both went to number 1 in Billboard charts. "City of Angels" had a number of hits, contributing to the success of the soundtrack. Shall we get back to that time and listen again to the soundtrack's hits?
Iris (by Goo Goo Dolls)
I know Goo Goo Dolls is already existent before "City of Angels" but through "Iris", they became popular in the mainstream. This alternative rock tune was a hit from 1998 until 1999, and was considered a timeless song.

Uninvited (by Alanis Morisette)
This is actually considered as the lead single of the soundtrack. It was a big radio hit at that time, and a comeback for Alanis Morissette. However, it could have been more popular if the song has its own music video considering the popularity of MTV at that time.
Angel (by Sarah McLachlan)
I think this is the most recognizable hit from Sarah McLachlan. She's very popular at that time, and this ballad came. The song has a heart-touching effect on its astmosphere paired with Sarah's voice, along with the sound of "grand piano".
